What’s new for schools visiting Up at The O2 and how a climb can inspire your students.

Students listen to an instructor during a climb as part of Up at The O2 experience

Its newly launched education programme meets the national curriculum objectives and links to subjects including history and geography, STEM and art.

Do something different. Zip up your climb jacket. Pull on your boots. Hook up your harness and then make your way up the south face of one of the most striking buildings in London’s skyline.

Standing 52 metres above ground level, a climb over the popular music, entertainment and leisure venue is the ideal opportunity to make memories and inspire your students.

Booking your school trip is easy with Up at The O2. Experience the 90-minute adventure with optional education programmes while marvelling over the incredible 360-degree view over the city.

Aimed at students aged eight to 18, all of the newly launched educational programmes are linked to the National Curriculum, designed and created by education experts and practising teachers.

Your school visit to Up at The O2 includes:

  • A 90-minute guided climbing experience.
  • Free teacher places.
  • Free pre and post educational resource materials.
  • Educational activities held on the roof.
  • Risk assessment.
  • One free printed group photo per climb.
  • Certificate of achievement for all climbers.

Subjects to inspire your children include art (KS3-5), business (KS4-5), English as a foreign language, history (KS2-3), geography (KS2-3) and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths for KS2 and 3).

New and exciting addition for 2024

A new sustainability-focused programme for KS3-4 geography and science invites students to complete experiments on the roof of The O2. Will they generate enough of their own energy to light up London? All the while seeing first-hand how London’s biggest entertainment venue is becoming carbon-neutral.

An incredible view of London's O2 to illustrate the Up at The O2 climb

Up at The O2 is a 90-minute experience your students won’t forget.

Free worksheets and activities are available for all subjects. These range from KS2 geography challenge cards asking students to compare a map of the old docks to the OS map of how the Docklands look now, through to a GSCE business task which involves creating an exciting product for Up at The O2 including a marketing strategy to present to ‘the Dragons’ at their next lesson.

The price for educational bookings starts from £375 for a maximum of 15 students, and the team support the ratio of 1:15 (one teacher/leader to 15 students). All pre and post learning resources will be sent to you at the time of booking to allow you plenty of time to plan classroom learning sessions.

What to expect on the day

After checking in, your group will be given a full safety briefing and introduction. Then it’s time to get set for your climb, putting on equipment and placing belongings into flight cases.

At least one teacher/leader needs to be present when the children are kitted up. Once on the climb, at least one teacher/leader will need to climb on the walkway at the back to see the whole group – and you’ll all get to experience incredible views across London!

Getting to The O2 is very straightforward and coach parking is available (pre-booking for parking is not required).
