PGL Beyond partners with E-ACT North Birmingham Academy to send Performing Arts pupils on a trip to New York.

Early next year, 25 Sixth Form students will experience an all-expenses paid trip to the Big Apple, where they will explore the city that never sleeps, and see the hit Broadway musical, Hamilton.
The school, pupils and E-ACT Trust raised funds for its American adventure, but PGL Beyond contributed the remaining sum to make the trip possible. The collaborative effort between PGL and North Birmingham Academy, has meant the trip can be offered to pupils in a financially accessible way.
CEO of PGL Beyond, Anthony Jones, said: “Every young person should be able to access this kind of transformational learning opportunity to unlock their potential and positively shape their futures.”

Educational opportunities for students
Hamilton, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, will be one of the highlights of the visit, allowing Performing Arts students to witness live acting in front of their own eyes.
Based on the 2004 biography by Ron Chernow, Hamilton covers the life and legacy of the American Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton. The musical portrays his involvement in the Revolutionary War, political career and insight into his personal relationships.
The trip will offer historical context into how America came to be, as well as linking to drama and PSHE.
“The announcement was out of this world, it’s just so incredible. I have no words! I’m most excited about seeing Hamilton.”
Paige Vickers, Year 12.

Learning outside the classroom
Drama teacher at North Birmingham Academy, Sean Henderson organised the trip and said: “I’m delighted that we were finally able to come clean with our students and let them know they will all be heading to the Big Apple next year, totally for free.

“It will mean the world for our students to visit America, and as students of performing arts to see this playing out at the highest level on Broadway will be an unforgettable experience.
“The fact this trip has become a reality is a testament to our hard work as a school, and the generosity of PGL Beyond, along with donations from Phil and Pam Hobson, and IDE Systems that made this amazing opportunity possible. Our pupils can’t wait to go.”
