The course for educational visit coordinators will take place in November at Château d’Ebblinghem in Northern France and is open to EVCs of any experience level.

EVC immersive training trip to France

School Travel Organiser went to the first training course in 2023 where teachers and EVCs took part in a Town Trail in St Omer, here they discussed what to do if a child were to go missing.

The course will give teachers and EVCs from England and Wales the opportunity to spend three days at Château d’Ebblinghem in Northern France, from 12th to 14th November 2025, where they will take part in hands-on training and school trip scenarios.

All meals, excursions and two nights accommodation in single occupancy rooms is included with the course, along with return travel from a UK pick up point. The interactive training will include activities and learning experiences reflecting activities that pupils would take part in on a visit.

Participants will earn their EVC Certification and will encounter typical school trip scenarios, such as a ferry crossing, trips to popular sites and navigating the challenges of residentials. Trip planning, risk management and risk assessment will be covered in the course, along with supervision, guidance, best practice and legal issues. Each area will have theory and practical sessions.

A spokesperson for EVOLVE Advice said: “Educational Visits Coordinators play a vital role in ensuring the safety, quality, and educational value of school trips. At EVOLVE Advice, we believe that effective training should go beyond theory—and immersive learning offers a powerful way to bring training to life.

“By working with PGL Beyond, we’re able to simulate the real-world experiences EVCs will encounter—whether it’s managing a ferry crossing, dealing with a delayed coach, or supporting students through unfamiliar environments. These realistic scenarios help build confidence, decision-making skills, and a deeper understanding of the EVC role.”

The course will be funded for participants and is the second course PGL Beyond and EVOLVE Advice have run, with the first at Château d’Ebblinghem in 2023. Michelle Evans, head of schools marketing at PGL Beyond highlighted the importance of overcoming financial barriers.

“We had an incredible response to the partially funded immersive training we delivered with EVOLVE Advice in 2023 and knew there was an appetite for another course.

“However, we also know the reality of UK schools’ current financial situation. That’s why, this year, we are delighted to be able to offer this immersive training course fully funded in partnership with EVOLVE Advice. We firmly believe that collaborations such as this are necessary to support the sector and, where possible, eliminate barriers to raising standards and helping schools deliver the best experience possible.”
