We’ll be sharing some fantastic school trips that have taken place in recent times to remind us all of their positive impact.

While it’s a challenging time for school travel at the moment, we want to continue sharing brilliant learning outside the classroom experiences. So over the coming weeks we’ll be reflecting on those visits that have had a particular impact on the pupils and teachers.

Do you have an experience over the last year to share with others? Please get in touch by emailing editorial@schooltravelorganiser.com - we’d love to hear from you and continue spreading positive messages.

In this instalment we hear from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Ashbourne about a Business and Economics residential at Disneyland Paris.

Teacher Andrea Briggs who organised the trip with NST reflects on the experience:

“We absolutely loved the fact that the trip helped bring the subject to life for the students. The entrepreneurs were truly inspiring. Parents said that their children came back buzzing with excitement. It really created a team atmosphere from the coach trip to the wonderful breakfasts.

Students from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Ashbourne had a great time on the residential.

“The characters and the magic of Disney brought out the children in us all while at the same time we returned home with a wealth of business knowledge to discuss. My BTEC students loved seeing how impressive the visual merchandising was in all of the Disney stores and the photos they took have meant their assignments are supported by amazing research.

What the trip involved

The experience helped bring Business and Economics to life for students.

  • Presentations by leading experts from high profile companies about relevant real-life experiences.
  • Case studies for exams igniting students’ aspirations while complementing KS4 & KS5 curriculums.
  • Students could put their own questions to the experts during a Q&A session.

Andrea added: “Our speaker from Disney showed the power of nudge Economics in action at the park.

“Our research topic for A-Level Business happens to be the entertainment industry and with the UK launch of Disney+ this year, the trip came at the perfect time.

“My relationship with the students also gained from this trip. Being able to help students to experience the subject in such a wonderful venue was incredible. Some of my students had never been abroad before and this was a perfect chance for them to have fun, travel and learn all while being with their friends.”

“I think school trips are invaluable and I can’t wait to return next year - the lower 6th were desperate to book again as they have heard such positive things from the students - and from Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter obviously!”

“Thank you to NST for the trip to Disney. As this was our first Business and Economics residential it was fantastic that it went without a hitch. The support from the team in the planning stages really helped. The communication throughout was also great particularly when I had numerous queries from parents and students.”
