Ramsey Academy triple science students visited the Technicians gallery because of its focus on real-life careers in STEM.

Year 10 students from The Ramsey Academy in Essex were visiting the free gallery, aimed at 11-16 years olds, when the major milestone was reached.

The purpose of Technicians: The David Sainsbury Gallery is for pupils to learn about different careers in STEM through interactive exhibits and technician-led workshops. During their visit, Ramsey Academy students met with technicians from the Science Museum to hear about their work and the skills needed to maintain the exhibition for millions of visitors.

Students from Ramsey Academy helped the gallery reach the milestone of two million visitors.

Dan Wheeler, head of year at The Ramsey Academy, said: “We visited the Technicians Gallery as our Year 10 triple science students are starting to think about future pathways, and the gallery offered a strong careers focus. The students were interested to learn about the wide range of technician roles and the different routes into them.”

“Being the two millionth visitors was a lovely surprise and made our visit even more memorable.”

Explore careers in science

School groups visiting the Technicians gallery can learn about the vital roles of technicians working in advanced manufacturing, creative industries, health science and renewable energy to explore where technicians work, hear their inspirational stories, and experience daily life as a technician.

Interactive exhibits allow students to experience a range of technical skills, including welding and creating medication.

Innovative interactive exhibits allow students to simulate the skills and techniques used in a wide range of technical careers, from making medication as an NHS pharmacy technician to adjusting the lighting in a recreation of a film set from Marvel Studio’s Black Panther.

Free workshops with STEM professionals are offered to KS3 and KS4. These include hands-on science activities and a Q&A session with individuals working in technical roles.
