Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank: Romeo and Juliet will return to the Globe Theatre with dedicated schools performances, offering KS3 - 4 the chance to watch a Shakespeare production.

KS3 & 4 pupils will be able to watch the production in the surroundings of the Globe Theatre in London.

Created specifically for young people working towards their GCSEs, the production offers thousands of free and subsidised tickets to schools.

Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank: Romeo and Juliet is directed by Globe director of education Lucy Cuthbertson and is an introduction to Shakespeare through a dynamic 90-minute performance of Shakespeare’s iconic Romeo and Juliet. The school-focused production was first launched in 2024.

The production takes place on stage at Shakespeare’s Globe and will run until 12th April 2026. Dedicated schools’ performances will take place from 26th February to 25th March.

Director Lucy Cuthbertson, said: “I’m delighted to revive our fast-paced, heart-breaking, bike-stunt wheeling production of Romeo and Juliet to celebrate the unique 20 year anniversary of Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank. This contemporary interpretation of the most famous of all plays gives young people a thrilling theatrical experience.”

What to expect

Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank: Romeo and Juliet is created especially for young people and delves into the impact broken society has on young people’s lives as Romeo and Juliet’s intense passion lights up a world of increasing violence between rival gangs: the Montagues and the Capulets.

Hayden Mampasi playing Romeo and Felixe Forde playing Juliet will be returning following their lead roles in 2024. They will be joined by Sharon Ballard as Lady Capulet, Simeon Desvignes as Paris, Marième Diouf as Friar, Miriam Grace Edwards as Nurse, and Liam King as Tybalt. 

CPD sessions, student workshops and free learning resources are available, including lessons plans and activities across six weeks.

Shakespeare’s Globe was named Best Venue for English Learning at the 2024 School Travel Awards. The theatre welcomes school groups to see performances and to take part in workshops.

Workshops at Shakespeare’s Globe are available for primary and secondary schools. Lively Action workshops are available for KS1-2 and 3-5 and include a guided tour of the theatre and one-hour practical workshop tailored to the school group.
