Campaign will highlight the benefits of school residentials

It will launch  in autumn and follows the success of the #BrilliantResidentials campaign, which provided teachers with guidance on how to improve students’ residential experiences.

The campaign

#WinterResidentials will hold two launch events, on 18th and 27th September, where  evidence gathered from the Learning Away programme regarding the benefits of residentials will be shared.

The launches will be open to anyone interested in the campaign, but will be particularly focused on those providing residentials and help spread the campaign’s messages in schools.

They will also aim to equip providers with the tools needed to collaboratively raise awareness of the positive outcomes of residentials in the winter months.

About the residentials

According to Learning Away, which was founded to develop and pilot innovative residential learning programmes, winter residentials can prove to be particularly effective and are reportedly likely to have a long-term impact on students.

Learning Away notes that winter residentials allow learning and development to be embedded back in school, while fostering deeper relationships that are sustained back in the classroom. It goes on to note that relationships between staff and students become more “trusting and respectful”, as the latter get to know teachers as individuals.

In addition, the campaign states that they are more affordable and therefore inclusive for all students, as many residential providers have reduced rates, discounts and bursaries over the winter months.

Finally, Learning Away explains that winter residentials offer new learning opportunities, such as astronomy, night walks and exploring in the dark.
