The School Travel Awards, regarded as a benchmark for the recognition of people, venues and teachers involved with school trips and learning outside the classroom, has confirmed that the awards ceremony will be broadcast on 20th May 2021 at 4.30pm as an online virtual event.

School Travel Awards Trophies

Everyone wants one of these - the School Travel Awards trophies.

Publisher of School Travel Organiser magazine Rob Yandell commented: “Our hope was that we could stage the ceremony as a physical event as we have done previously, and to that end we pushed the ceremony date back to try and accommodate this objective. However, with the passage of time, it has become clear that a virtual ceremony is the best and safest option.

“Whilst this means a change in the way we will do things, it certainly does not mean we downgrade the event. Yes it will be different, but we are still set for a brilliant ceremony which will properly celebrate the achievements and high standards within the sector and reward teachers and schools, plus the suppliers who embrace learning outside the classroom and who make a positive difference to the lives and education, and the wellbeing of children across the country.”

Despite the challenging circumstances, the response and voting from School Travel Organiser readers has once again been strong. This includes a range of entries from schools for the ‘My Best School Trip’ Award and various fantastic nominations for the School Trip Champion Award. To see the latest information click here.

The ceremony will be available to view online through the School Travel Organiser website. It will start at 4.30pm on 20th May and is set to reach a wide audience of teachers, educational visit co-ordinators, practitioners and providers.

Editor of School Travel Organiser, Keeley Rodgers said: “With schools reopening in March and with the general outlook improving following the ongoing rollout of the Covid vaccine, it is likely activities and forward planning for school trips will step up a gear across the second half of 2021, with a renewed focus on forward plans for 2022.

“The importance and recognition of school trips has come into sharp focus over recent months including the positive effect on the wellbeing and mental health of pupils. Along with our partners we will recognise the outstanding people and places as we always do.”

Planning forward

Rob Yandell added: “We believe it is critically important to recognise the attractions, companies and people behind inspiring school trips, and also to honour the reader voting received. We will be investing very substantially to create an innovative, online awards ceremony that will be credible, interesting and enjoyable, and that will involve all our stakeholders in a positive way. New innovations will be deployed including green screen technology.

“The ceremony and our substantial media support for it will include excellent branding for all our partners and provide everyone involved with the prestige and benefits of participation. Uniquely, the ceremony will also be available on-demand after it has first been broadcast, further widening its appeal, its longevity and its reach to the widest audience.

“Of course, all the winners will still be sent their awards trophy and certificates and the prestigious Awards Brochure will still be published in the May/June edition of School Travel Organiser magazine, including our online e-magazine version, featuring the winners, finalists and partners.”
