What’s coming up at Tate Liverpool?

Date Posted: 10/10/2014

From work by Andy Warhol to Gretchen Bender – Tate Liverpool has some big name exhibitions coming up this autumn/winter season.

The gallery’s main show, Transmitting Andy Warhol, will run at the gallery from 7th November until 8th February 2015.

Running concurrently with a show of multimedia work by Gretchen Bender, Transmitting Andy Warhol explores the pop artist’s role in establishing new platforms to disseminate art, and his experimentation with new approaches to art reception that redefined artistic practice and distribution.

Highlights include the Marilyn Diptych, Dance Diagram and Do-it-Yourself paintings, and other loans from international collections and the ARTIST ROOMS collection.

A major highlight of the Gretchen Bender exhibition is Total Recall 1987, a seminal work first shown at The Kitchen in New York, it critiques the accelerated image-flow of television and the violence of images in a society now shaped by their commodification.

The Serving Library exhibition

Also running alongside the two major exhibitions mentioned above will be The Serving Library.

Including a collection of art works, artefacts, books and other materials, it will ask students to reconsider the traditional role of the library.
