A new stage production of Shakespeare in Love will open in the West End’s Noel Coward Theatre next summer, based on the Academy Award-winning film.

Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions, priority booking opens on the 26th November, with preview performances scheduled to begin in early July 2014.

The romantic comedy play has been adapted for the West End by Lee Hall, who won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Book for his stage adaptation of Billy Elliot. The full creative team and cast will be announced in due course.

Synopsis: Shakespeare in Love

Plagued by debt, tormented by writer’s block and in desperate need of a new hit, promising new playwright Will Shakespeare finds his muse in the form of passionate young noblewoman, Viola De Lesseps.

Their forbidden love soon draws everyone, including Queen Elizabeth herself, into the drama and inspires Will to write the greatest love story of all time, Romeo and Juliet.
