War, photography and unsung heroes at the Spinnaker Tower

Date Posted: 25/05/2013

This autumn, Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth’s iconic 170-metre viewing tower will host two new exhibitions, adding extra value to school groups visiting between September and November.

Portsmouth during the war

From 23rd September to 6th October, Portsmouth Then & Now will highlight what the city faced during World War Two.

Using the tower’s stunning views to compare the changing faces of Portsmouth with photography dating back to the 1940s, pupils can enjoy panoramic views and an insight into some fascinating history.

As part of Then & Now, Spinnaker Tower and Action Stations will be hosting a World War Two theme day on 2nd October and targeted specifically at Key Stage 1 and 2 level students.

Literary and community heroes

If you’re visiting between 11th and 24th November, you can experience the Spinnaker Tower’s second major exhibition, Hampshire Heroes.

The exhibit showcases literary, on-screen and unsung community heroes from across the county, and Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle and Olympians will be among the selection of people who have lived and thrived in Hampshire.
