UK tour of Birdsong opens in Eastbourne

Peter Duncan, George Banks and Carolin Stoltz will be heading the cast of the 2014 national tour of Rachel Wagstaff’s stage play Birdsong, which is adapted from the novel by Sebastian Faulks.

Birdsong will begin touring on 12th February in Eastbourne, visiting UK venues until July including Salisbury Playhouse and Theatre Royal in York.

Peter Duncan, of Blue Peter fame, will take the role of Jack Firebrace; George Banks (The History Boys, Hobson’s Choice) and Carolin Stoltz (Emmerdale), will play the romantic leads of Stephen Wraysford and Isabelle Azaire. 

Synopsis

In pre-war France, a young Englishman, Stephen Wraysford, embarks on a passionate and dangerous affair with the beautiful Isabelle Azaire that turns their worlds upside down.

As the war breaks out, Stephen must lead his men through the carnage of the Battle of the Somme. Faced with the unprecedented horror of the war, Stephen clings to the memory of Isabelle as his world explodes around him.
