The Turner Contemporary

The Turner Contemporary gallery in Kent is hosting an Art competition for schools – and the winner will see their submission housed in the gallery for the enjoyment of the general public.

Pupils, students and teachers in Kent and Medway can enter the competition now, for the chance to exhibit artwork as part of the gallery’s 2017 summer exhibition.

Portfolio; the competition

Portfolio is Turner Contemporary and Canterbury Christ Church University’s annual art competition.

This year, the competition is celebrating its tenth anniversary, and to mark the occasion the organisers are pairing up with the MASK prize, another competition that celebrates the creative work of African children and young people.

Winning entries from both competitions will be displayed together at Turner Contemporary and the Nairobi National Museum in Kenya.

This year’s theme is Making a Change, exploring how art has the power to change attitudes, people and places.

It can be interpreted in many ways, such as the changing seasons, metamorphosis or growing older, a change the artist would like to make to the world, or a change that has affected the entrant.

Artwork can be in any medium and of any size. For example, students may choose to use photography, painting, drawing, digital design, film, sculpture, textiles or collage.

The competition is open to pupils and students aged four to 18, a professional working in an educational establishment for the same age group, or a current teacher training student.

Winning entries, runners up, highly commended works and shortlisted entries will be displayed as part of Turner Contemporary’s 2017 Summer Season from 27th May until 7th September.

The deadline for entries is 1st March, 2017.
