Tate Modern

Tate Modern will host a series of artist-in-residence workshops for Secondary school pupils in the spring and summer terms of 2017.

Every Wednesday between 4th January and 29th March, and 4th May and 29th June, school groups will have the opportunity to visit Tate Modern in London and meet an artist in residence.

Tate Modern will offer this series of workshops in order to encourage fresh perspectives on Art from visiting students.

The workshops, which are free, will take place in the Tate Modern gallery, where students and teachers can encounter artwork and artists.

The aim of the workshops is to encourage conversations about Art and contemporary culture, as well as teach participants about the artists whose work is on display.

Who are the resident artists?

The 2016/17 workshops will be led by artists Louise Ashcroft, Jonny Briggs, Jemma Egan, Milda Lembertaite, Sophie Michael and Amelia Prazak – and each artist offers something very different from the next.

Work by Jonny Briggs, for example, explores the constructed reality of family through photography. His artwork often involves staged installations, the cartoonesque and the performative.

Milda Lembertaite, meanwhile, is a professional in creating conceptual art as well as set and costume design, and Jemma Egan’s work looks at the cult-like experience of brand loyalty and capitalist lifestyles.
