Stagecraft workshops with SJT OutReach

Date Posted: 06/08/2015

The Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough’s OutReach department will be delivering a series of free Drama workshops for young people across the region this autumn term.

Stagecraft takes place in Scarborough and Whitby and is open to seven to 16 year olds. The workshops have curriculum links to Drama and can be used to build confidence  in connection with PHSE studies.

The workshops, which are led by theatre professionals from SJT OutReach, will be held in the wards of Barrowcliff, Castle Ward, Eastfield, Edgehill and Whitby up until November.

School groups of a maximum of 25 students will take part in everything from samba drumming and stage fighting to circus skills, music and movement, shadow work and costume making. They will also be tasked with producing a documentary film of the entire process.

Participants will be able to show off their newfound skills in a public performance for friends and family at the end of the project and there is also the chance to gain an Arts Council England accredited Arts Award too.

The sessions will be recorded by a professional videographer for a special film screening later in the year to which all participants will be invited.

For more information, or to reserve a place, contact the Stephen Joseph Theatre Box Office on 01723-370541 or e-mail outreach@sjt.uk.com.
