Two pop-up Shakespearean theatres, inspired by the London Rose Playhouse, will be hosting special school performances and coinciding school resource packs in summer 2019.

Shakespeare's Rose Theatre

The pop-up Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre, which opened in York this year and is set to return in June 2019, will now see another pop-up set up its foundations at Blenheim Palace.

The Shakespearean theatre will arrive at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on 8th July 2019.

The two Shakespeare’s Rose Theatres will run simultaneously in York and at Blenheim Palace next year, performing eight of Shakespeare’s play across the venues.

The Blenheim Palace venue will be in place until 7th September and will see productions of Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, Richard III and A Midsummer Night’s Dream played throughout the summer. Meanwhile, the York site will feature productions of Hamlet, The Tempest, Henry V and Twelfth Night.

School performances and resources

A visit to one of the theatres to see a play is recommended for children aged ten and above.

A number of performances have been announced specifically for schools which will involve benefits including no limit of students and staff attending, one free teacher ticket per every tenth student, and opportunities for Q&As with the creatives, cast and crew.

School resources are available online for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet to aid visits and to be used either before or after viewing one of Shakespeare’s plays at Blenheim Palace.
