Schools take front row seat as HOME launches debut season

Date Posted: 24/06/2014

In anticipation of its arrival in spring 2015, Manchester’s new arts, theatre and film venue HOME will be taking up temporary residence in some of the city’s most iconic locations.

Five dedicated matinee performances of Romeo and Juliet will take place on 18th, 23rd, 25th, 30th September and 2nd October at the Edwardian Victoria Baths, which HOME has programmed for students studying the text as part of their GCSE English Literature, as well as drama and A-Level students.

Travelling throughout the historic baths building in promenade style, the drama is retold as a contemporary fairytale.

Workshop sessions

On 23rd and 30th September, schools and colleges can book to take part in a Romeo and Juliet workshop session with the artistic director, Walter Meierjohann.

The event has been designed to help students gain a greater understanding of the play’s themes and offer an insight into how the classic text can be interpreted in live performance.

Pupils will also have the opportunity to meet the cast and examine creative elements such as set design and costume.
