Online school resources are available to encourage a celebration of the North of England among all ages and cover topics including transport, landscape and technology.

Great Exhibition of the North School Programme

The Great Exhibition of the North ran from 22nd June to 9th September this year and encouraged a celebration of the North of England. The event commended the achievements of engineers and industry across the North and featured an integral schools programme.

The online school resources are part of plans intended to keep building on the legacy of the exhibition.

School resources to encourage the next generation

Lucy Tetley, schools and young people engagement manager at the Great Exhibition of the North, said: “We want to inspire the next generation of engineers, designers, innovators and inventors to explore the amazing opportunities on offer in the North of England.”

The teacher planning packs are tailored around the themes of the exhibition and explore ideas and inventions on a range of topics including transport and travel, explorers, design, and innovation.

The online learning resources are suitable for Early Years and Key Stages 1-3, and can be downloaded by teachers from the website for use within the classroom, or to complement a school trip to the North of the country.

In addition to the lesson plans, 22 short videos are also available to watch online (www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZbx_upne8uD_CjD-bm9jQb4cFdXy7sSu) which showcase different careers in the North of England. The clips feature people from a range of backgrounds just starting out in their working career and include employees from organisations including the National Nuclear Laboratory, Nebula Labs and Wombat Creative.
