Richard Armitage leads cast in Miller’s The Crucible

Date Posted: 15/04/2014

A new version of Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible directed by Yael Farber will play at The Old Vic, London from 24th June to 13th September.

Initial casting has been announced. Richard Armitage, Anna Madeley and Samantha Colley are to play John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor and Abigail Williams.

Miller’s modern American masterpiece is about the Salem witch trials, and draws parallels with the author’s experience of McCarthy’s anti-Communist investigations in the 1950s.

The Crucible tells the story of one man’s fight to save his identity in a repressive Puritan community where intolerance collides with lust and superstition, fuelling widespread hysteria with tragic results.

The Crucible is the second play in a new season of productions which are presented in-the-round at The Old Vic.

Teachers booking for school groups of ten or more pupils can claim a discounted rate of £12 per ticket for performances on Monday to Wednesday evenings and Tuesday and Wednesday matinees.
