Renoir exhibition at Surrey venue

Date Posted: 23/11/2013

An exhibition of works from Pierre-Auguste Renoir will open at The Lightbox Gallery in Surrey next year; Renoir in Britain will be on show from 8th February to 20th April.

Students visiting the exhibition on a school trip can see Renoir's wide range of subject matter including portraits, nudes, landscapes and still life. Photographs of London exhibitions in the 1880s and letters sourced from Paris archives will also be on display.

Renoir in Britain will showcase Renoir's work chronologically, featuring pieces from every decade, from the mid-late 1860s to 1919.

Visiting school groups can also discover the story of how and why the work came to Britain, tracing when the work was brought to the UK and by whom.

Works will be put together from The National Gallery, Tate, The Victoria and Albert Museum and many other regional galleries.

Highlights include A Bather (1885-90) and Lakeside Landscapes (1889) from the National Gallery, and a Portrait of Willhelm Muhlfeld, (1910) from the Southampton City Art Gallery.

Entry to The Lightbox Gallery is free.
