Performance and Dance with My First Ballet

Date Posted: 18/02/2015

The My First Ballet series makes ballet accessible to younger years, inspiring a new generation of dancers with its tour of Swan Lake.

In a joint venture between English National Ballet and English National Ballet School, My First Ballet: Swan Lake will tour the UK, providing youngsters nationwide with an introduction to classical ballet.

The iconic Tchaikovsky ballet has been reimagined into a manageable one hour performance, complete with narrator, who will help guide children through the story.

Designed to make ballet accessible to younger years, the My First Ballet series is performed by second year students from the English National Ballet School.

The production has also been designed with the aid of King’s College London, Widgit and Sign 2 Learn, to make ballet accessible to children with learning difficulties and disabilities.

A selection of symbol resources, available for download, make the performance’s story and meaning clearer and easier to understand.

Additional educational activities are also printed in programmes and obtainable at venues throughout the tour, with learning resources designed for continued use before, during and after performances.

Opening at Peacock Theatre in London on 2nd April, My First Ballet: Swan Lake will tour for six weeks across England, with performances in Poole, Woking, Manchester, Bristol, Wimbledon and Leicester.
