October reopening for Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum

Date Posted: 26/09/2013

Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum will be re-opening to the public on 5th October after a major £6 million redevelopment.

Four new floors will be dedicated to the art gallery and museum’s fine art collection, space to discover more about local heroes, (including Edward Wilson), a re-interpreted Arts and Crafts gallery and two temporary exhibition galleries.

The redevelopment will also become the new home for the town’s tourism services with the re-location of Cheltenham’s Tourist Information Centre to the art gallery and museum.

An opening exhibition of glass

The building will open with the new exhibition, Casting Brilliance: Colin Reid, which celebrates the work of the local glass artist, followed by the open west - an annual open competition and exhibition.

Casting Brilliance: Colin Reid will be on display from 5th October until 5th January 2014, and will show work from each stage of Colin’s career, including new pieces specifically made for Casting Brilliance.

School trip organisers visiting the Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum will find admission is free, and guided tours can be booked in advance.
