Newly opened Lion Salt Works offers interactive learning sessions

Date Posted: 21/09/2015

The Lion Salt Works in Cheshire is currently developing its learning outside of the classroom programme, catering for all four Key Stages in various subjects.

History, Geography, Science and Design Technology are all on the list for LOtC trips to the museum.

Information relevant to Key Stages 1 through to 4 is available for History and Geography visits, while Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 are provided for in Science, and Key Stages 1 and 2 in Design Tech.

A visit to the Lion Salt Works costs £5 per pupil for the whole day which includes a tour, a chance to explore the site and a workshop.

All groups will explore the salt history galleries. Harry, the barman, will take students on a tour of the site explaining how salt was made, the impact the salt industry had on the local area, and tell stories of the owners, the workers and the horrific conditions they had to work in.

You can then choose a particular workshop, such as a Science session (whereby children will become scientists and make salt) or a History class (when pupils will use different sources to explore the impact of salt on the environment).
