New touring production of Classic Ghosts

Date Posted: 06/12/2013

Middle Ground Theatre Company has announced a UK tour for Classic Ghosts, comprising a double presentation of The Signal Man by Charles Dickens, and Oh, Whistle, and I’ll Come To You, My Lad by M. R James.

Touring from January to April, both shows feature performances from Jack Shepherd, of Wycliffe fame, alongside Terrence Hardiman (The Demon Headmaster), Dicken Ashworth (Coronation Street, Emmerdale), James Morley, Jenny-May Darcy and Greg Fitch.

Double the scares with two ghost stories

The Signal Man, adapted by Francis Evelyn, is billed as an exquisitely unnerving tale of a tormented signalman who is haunted by visions of impending disaster on his isolated stretch of line. Can a well-meaning traveller, who chances upon the lonely signal box while out walking, calm the man’s fears before he spirals into self-destruction?

The second ghost story, Oh, Whistle, and I’ll Come To You, My Lad (adapted by Margaret May Hobbs), tells a tale of Professor Parker, a Cambridge academic on an out-of-season holiday at a bleak English east coast hotel. Upon accidentally awakening a disturbing supernatural force, a terrifying ordeal follows.
