Plans have been revealed for the building of a new 900-seat theatre at the One Tower Bridge development, due to open in 2017.

The venue is set to be a flagship theatre for the London Theatre Company, a new independent producing company founded by Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr (previously from the National Theatre).

The venue is understood to become one of the only commercial central London theatres of this scale outside the West End.

The auditorium, which is set to open in spring 2017, will be designed by Steve Tompkins and Roger Watts of Haworth Tompkins, who were behind the Royal Court Theatre and the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool.

The new venue will also create an appealing cultural destination for visitors, complemented by restaurants, cafes and shops within the mixed use development.

In addition to a programme of performances, the theatre will offer a range of schools’ initiatives and educational opportunities.
