Learning by the seaside – new project launch

Date Posted: 27/08/2014

Seaside holidays, prehistoric treasures and period costumes will all form part of the new CoastEd. programme for school children in west Sussex.

Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, Littlehampton Museum and Rustington Museum have spent the past six months building the programme.

Ranging from museum workshops to loan boxes, the programme reflects the full range of museum collections and is tailored to complement the new National Curriculum.

A new team of learning assistants (including specialists in Archaeology, Social History and Art) will deliver the content to school children across the county.

Lisa Gale, project manager for CoastEd commented: “It has taken a lot of work to put together this new programme, but we wanted to make sure that it is exactly what schools want and need, from linking to the National Curriculum to adding a spark of imagination and creativity to our offer.”

Teachers will be able to find out more about the new programme through a dedicated website www.coast-ed.org.uk – where you can find out more information about each of the partner organisations, what is on offer from each, and how to book from September.
