Brilliant Residentials

Campaigning group, Learning Away, has revealed a new set of ‘Brilliant Residentials’ Continued Professional Development (CPD) materials available to teachers.

The resources will be suitable for school staff and senior leaders and will become available this spring.

How they’ll work

The aim of the materials is to promote a wider understanding of the unique nature and potential of residentials by exploring and sharing what the organisation has learned so far.

The materials will complement the Learning Away website and have been designed to be delivered using interactive teaching and learning strategies where educational staff can get hands-on.

According to the group the materials will “draw on the real-life experiences and learning of schools we have worked with extensively through the initial action research project and include numerous opportunities for reflection and planning”.

What will be included?

The materials will include two strands: one for school senior leaders and governors and another for school staff, with the suggested inclusion of senior leaders and governors in the final module.

There are also two versions of the materials. One version is a set of materials designed to be delivered face-to-face by a facilitator and the other is an e-learning version that will be available on the Learning Away website,

The materials will include various modules with opportunities for discussions, reflection and team work.

About the ‘Brilliant Residentials’ campaign

The Brilliant Residentials campaign, run by Learning Away, encourages schools to provide residential experiences for pupils.

Through research, the organisation has created guidelines for what makes a 'brilliant residential', including being integrated with the curriculum, inclusive of all students, and involving memorable experiences.
