LOtC award winners revealed

The winners of the LOtC Oscars were announced last week, at a special awards ceremony at Masa restaurant in Derby.

Four certificates were handed out by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, in recognition of the outstanding contributions individuals have made to the advancement of learning outside the classroom.

The award for LOtC Innovator went to Sue Verdeyen from Three Counties Agricultural Society. The award for LOtC Educator went to Emma Schofield from Boston West Academy, and the award for Celebrity LOtC Champion was awarded to chef Hugh Fearnley-Wittingstall.

The Lifetime Achievement accolade, meanwhile, was presented by School Travel Organiser’s Guide editor Sarah Holt. The winner was Kate Allies from Rosliston Forestry Centre.

“I’m completely overwhelmed,” said Kate on the night. “We’ve been so busy delivering exciting projects that I’ve had to remember to remind people to vote for me. We are a team. What we do goes beyond any one of us individuals. This feels like an award for the team.”

Along with her award, Kate took home a huge hamper full of chocolates, a bottle of bubbly and a bouquet of flowers. As far as she’s concerned, though, her lifetime of achievement is only just starting.

“We’ve got some really exciting stuff that we’re starting to implement,” said Kate. “We’re always doing that, inspiring each other.”
