Kate Humble

Television presenter Kate Humble has been announced as a key note speaker at this year’s conference which aims to inspire outdoor learning.

Learning Beyond The Classroom Conference 2018: Inspiring Excellence Outdoors will take place on 20th April at High Ashurst Outdoor Education Centre in Surrey. It is run by Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development, also known as SOLD.

The conference is suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2 head/deputy head teachers, Primary sports coordinators, or any Primary school educationalists. It is also suitable for teachers involved in the transition between Primary to Secondary school.

Key note speakers

Kate Humble, TV presenter, writer and naturalist, is known for her passion and contribution to the outdoors, and will be discussing how to fuel young people’s appetite for getting in the outdoors and developing their relationship throughout their lifetime with the natural environment.

Juliet Robertson, author of Messy Maths and Dirty Teaching, will be sharing many practical ideas for providing quality outdoor learning and play opportunities.

Kim Somerville, coordinating the Brilliant Residentials campaign for Learning Away, will be presenting the data from a new report about ‘The State of Residentials’ in England and what needs to be done to ensure every child has access to a quality residential experiences at all ages and from all backgrounds.

What to expect from the conference

The day will consist of a mix of key note speakers and practical workshops. Workshops will include: Maths, Mapping and Micro Adventures; Natures Numbers; Literacy in the Outdoors; Words in the Wilderness; and more.
