Date Posted: 12/02/2014

Hestercombe House in Somerset is set to open a contemporary art gallery on 24th May; with opening exhibition Leaping the Fence bringing together art works including sound and film pieces, sculpture and digital works, as well as paintings from the national Arts Council Collection.

Exhibition curator Tim Martin said: “This is a truly exhilarating venture. We will bring together a range of works of the kind not often seen in this region.

“I am in negotiations regarding pieces from renowned names in the art world including Turner prize-winner Mark Wallinger, Mark Quinn and Meriele Neudecker.”

As well as the art gallery, Hestercombe House will also become home to The Hestercombe Centre for Young Musicians, opening on 1st March, run by the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The gallery will build on and renew the estate’s long-standing tradition of art intertwined with landscape.
