Date Posted: 11/01/2014

Gilbert & Sullivan Festival will celebrate its 21st anniversary in Harrogate from 2nd to 26th August, with 60 full-scale productions of Gilbert and Sullivan operas in 25 days in the Royal Hall and the Harrogate Theatre.

Highlights of the 2014 programme have been announced, and include no less than 23 performances from the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company who will present four new productions of The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore and Iolanthe.

They will be joined by the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players (one of America’s leading professional opera companies) with an American take on The Yeomen of the Guard and The Pirates of Penzance.

School trip organisers arranging a visit can also see seven British university groups presenting their own Gilbert and Sullivan productions in a special university UNIFest competition in the Harrogate Theatre.

There will also be a ‘Best of British’ outdoor concert at Newby Hall, a professional performance of Tosca at nearby Fountains Abbey, and a Sullivan Spectacular in Ripon Cathedral.
