Flowers and literature at Burghley House festival

Date Posted: 04/07/2013

The staterooms of Burghley House in Lincolnshire will be transformed for the Burghley Flower Festival, taking place from 5th to 13th October, with this year’s theme ‘Books in Bloom’ celebrating classic literature.

Visiting schools can take a tour through the prettified interiors of the Elizabethan house, where the 17th century art and painted ceilings will be complemented by blooming floral displays.

The ‘Books in Bloom’ theme will celebrate the best of classic literature, including the 200-year anniversary of Pride and Prejudice; the film adaptation of which was partly filmed at Burghley.

Floral displays will be created by local flower societies, each taking their inspiration from a piece of classic literature.
