Carlisle Castle

A number of English Heritage properties now offer expert-led school visits linked with the curriculum.

Carlisle Castle in Carlisle and Beeston Castle and Woodland Park in Cheshire are now offering expert-led school visits which provide fun and informative sessions into the properties’ history.

Carlisle Castle

The visit on offer for schools at Carlisle Castle is a Castle Detectives session, suitable for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils.

During this session, classes will ‘travel back in time’ to discover what life was really like for those who lived and worked at the castle throughout history. Pupils will find clues along the way during their exploration of the castle. The duration of Castle Detectives is estimated to take one and a quarter hours.

Beeston Castle and Woodland Park

The Discovery Visits at Beeston Castle and Woodland Park are suitable for up to 30 students.

The Fortress Castle session is available for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. Classes will look for evidence in the remains of the castle to help them explore key historical events and create their own conclusions about the daily lives of the castle’s inhabitants. This session is estimated to take around one and a half hours.

The Prehistoric Settlers at Beeston session is suitable for Key Stage 2 pupils. During this session you class will explore the site’s history as an Iron Age hill fort. Pupils will take part in prehistoric style crafts using traditional tools. The session is estimated to take around one and three-quarter hours.
