Donmar’s Coriolanus stars Tom Hiddleston and Mark Gatiss

Tom Hiddleston stars in the title role of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus at the Donmar Warehouse this winter, running from 6th December to 8th February.

He will be joined by Mark Gatiss playing Menenius. Hiddleston’s recent credits include The Avengers, War Horse, Midnight in Paris, and BBC TV’s The Hollow Crown. Mark Gatiss is perhaps best known as the co-creator and star of The League of Gentlemen.

Directed by Josie Rourke, Coriolanus will also be broadcast live into cinemas around the world on 30th January in partnership with National Theatre Live.

Coriolanusis billed as Shakespeare’s searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge.

When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender: Coriolanus. But he has enemies at home too.

Famine threatens the city, the citizens’ hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people.
