A number of new educational workshops and schools-only mornings have been revealed as part of the 2016/17 education programme at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Primary and Secondary students are welcomed at the V&A; topics that can be studied during a school visit range from History, Art & Design and Literacy to Maths, Drama and Computing.

New additions to the museum’s education programme for the coming year include a number of workshops for Key Stages 1 to 5 and schools-exhibition mornings.

The schools-exhibition mornings open up the gallery space for teaching and group work. They’ll be run on 4th and 5th October between 10am and 10.45am so schools can view the Engineering the World exhibition, and on 1st and 2nd November so pupils can see You Say You Want a Revolution?

On the workshop front, meanwhile, Primary school teachers might like to choose the new session Performance for Primary; a Drama and History workshop available to book on 9th December relating to Christmas in the Victorian period.

Alternatively, free Literacy Live sessions for Key Stages 1 and 2 are available to book on Wednesday mornings throughout the school year, lasting an hour and allowing children to work with professional performers who will help bring museum artefacts to life through acting.

In addition, Research & Record is a new free Secondary school workshop relating to Art & Design. During the session students will learn how an artist or designer uses objects in the museum’s collections as a resource for developing knowledge and ideas.

The class then will analyse and evaluate the work of others and record their own observations. The workshop is 90 minutes long and available on selected dates including 14th October and 28th April 2017.

Another new free Secondary workshop is called Focus on the Practitioner, and links to Drama. The class will use selected original archive material to explore how practitioners’ ideas have developed, and bring theory to life by developing and performing their own devised work.
