D-Day Landings anniversary events in Normandy in 2014

Normandy will host a calendar of special events next summer to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and the ensuing 100 days of the Battle of Normandy.

From March to September, school groups can coincide a trip to the region with historical re-enactments, firework displays, military processions, concerts and exhibitions.

The official commemorations and celebrations will be held from 5th to 7th June, with the official commemoration ceremony taking place on 6th June at Sword beach in Ouistreham. Spaces will be open to the public in the immediate proximity of these sites, with heads of state and veterans also in attendance.

Additional event highlights celebrating the anniversary of the D-Day Landings also include:

•    2nd - 4th June: The Freedom Tattoo, Saint-Lo
•    6th June: Concert for Peace, Sainte-Mere-Eglise
•    7th June: Giant picnic on Omaha beach, Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer
•    8th June: Parachute show in La Fiere, near to Saint-Mere-Eglise
•    28th June: Liberation Ball, 40s meal and dance, Fermanville
•    12th - 13th July: Freedom Celebrated - festival, dance and firework display, Bolleville
