Educational visits to Chelsea Physic Garden from September 2017 onwards are now available for booking.

Chelsea Physic Garden

Full and half day sessions are on offer for all Key Stages and can cover topics such Plant & Animal Lifecycles and Rainforests for Key Stage 1; Plant Adaptations and Climate Change for Key Stage 2; and Maths in Nature and Medicinal Plants and Plant Poisons for Secondary-aged students.

All sessions are tailor-made to suit the needs of each school and their students. Visits tend to include a general tour of the garden and glasshouses, as well as self-led activities, botanical art and artefact handling.

Prior to a trip, teachers are required to visit the Chelsea Physic Garden to discuss the activities and make sure they are appropriate for the study of their chosen topics.

The visit also provides an opportunity to see the layout of the garden and its facilities before making a booking.

Teachers’ Evenings are also available, which provide a behind the scenes tour of the garden and its educational facilities. The next Teachers’ Evening will take place on Thursday 15th June. The event is free but booking is essential.

About Chelsea Physic Garden

Located beside the river Thames, Chelsea Physic Garden was founded in 1673 by the Worshipful Association of Apothecaries, with the aim of training apprentices in the identification and use of medicinal plants.

It is said to be one of London’s oldest botanic gardens and contains a collection of approximately 5,000 different edible, useful, medicinal and historical plants within its walls.
