Bold new adaptation of Shakespeare's As You Like It

Date Posted: 16/09/2013

Acclaimed theatre company, Transport, will present a bold new adaptation of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, touring UK venues from October to the end of November.

Completing its run at The Albany in London on 22nd November, the production focuses on contemporary experiences of exile, and is directed by Douglas Rintoul.

In his adaptation Rintoul underpins Shakespeare’s classic text with references to contemporary exile, asylum and migration. Much of the research he did for the piece was whilst living with the ‘No Borders Camp’ in Calais, France.

Rintoul was keen to focus on the lived experience of the refugee and migrant and particularly the case of female asylum seekers, who he found often used disguise as a means to safety. His adaptation was inspired by this and a migrant who learnt English by reading Shakespeare.
