Blackgang Chine to open new Underwater Kingdom in 2017

Date Posted: 26/12/2016

A new theme world is expected to open at Blackgang Chine amusement park next Easter called Underwater Kingdom.

The new theme world on the Isle of Wight will showcase an array of colourful, animatronic sea creatures.

Visitors will be able to see replica underwater caves, luminescent coral reefs, an abandoned sunken shipwreck and a ‘hidden kingdom’, details of which are yet to be revealed.

More details are to follow regarding the new addition to Blackgang Chine.

There are many other themed areas around the park for schools to explore on a visit, too. Among some of these themes are: mythical creatures inside the Rumpus Mansion; dinosaurs in Restricted Area 5; and the Wild West in Cowboy Town.

There is also a maze of hedges, a Giant Bug Walk where pupils can follow a trail of bug sculptures, and a crooked house.

School groups also have a choice of where to eat including The Chine Café, Captain Jack’s restaurant, iScream, or La Cantina.

School visits to Blackgang Chine

The park provides curriculum based resources to engage students in learning whilst visiting.

Blackgang Chine offers group rates for educational and activity groups of 15 or more. They are available as single entries to Blackgang Chine or can be combined with a visit with Robin Hill Country Park.

For schools, one leader for every ten pupils will get free admission and there are special discounted rates for Island schools.

Blackgang Chine works with Education Destination, which provides bespoke educational trips on the Isle of Wight, to produce up-to-date resource packs for various Key Stages that link to the National Curriculum in several subjects.

The park will re-open in March 2017 with the new Underwater Kingdom expected to open sometime in the spring.
