Alex Jennings to play Willy Wonka from May

Olivier Award-winning Alex Jennings will take over from Douglas Hodge to play Willy Wonka in the West End production of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory from 19th May.

Alex Jennings has had a wide and varied career on stage, screen and radio.

His credits at the National Theatre include Untold Stories, The Habit of Art and Stuff Happens, and his credits at the RSC include Hamlet, Peer Gynt and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. His screen career has covered The Queen, Smiley’s People, Hancock and Joan and Cranford.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the musical brings the wonder of Roald Dahl’s story to life, with music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

The production has recently extended its run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London and is currently taking bookings until 30th May 2015.
