21st century aircraft gallery opens at Fleet Air Arm Museum

Date Posted: 29/10/2013

A new gallery concentrating on the development of two new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers will officially open at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Somerset on 30th October.

The aircraft carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales are expected to enter service within the next decade.

They will continue the rich tradition of Royal Naval aircraft carriers and will be the largest warships ever constructed for the Royal Navy, measuring 280 metres long.

The new permanent exhibition features films showing the ‘building block’ construction process and give an insight into what life will be like on board, along with interactive displays allowing the user to manoeuvre aircraft on the flight deck and take off.
