The Victory Show

School Travel Organiser looks at why a visit to this year’s Victory Show can be educationally beneficial for schools.

The Victory Show, which is located in Cosby, Leicestershire, is a World War Two extravaganza and replicates the 1940s war years with special re-enactments.

This year’s event will take place between 8th and 10th September, and the first day will be a schools-specific day, called a School’s Day. School groups visiting on School’s Day can tie their visit into studies in History and Drama for pupils of all ages.

School’s Day at The Victory Show

Pupils visiting on School’s Day will get an insight into what life was like during World War Two, including finding out about the soldiers as well as daily life for those living in the wartime period.

Children will be encouraged to be inquisitive: question and answer sessions will be available with many of the re-enactors.

The day will also give school groups the chance to view some of the World War Two aircrafts and watch as they come in to land for the event.

Children will be encouraged to dress in period clothing when visiting the show, making the experience fun and educational, allowing children to be enthusiastic about both History and Drama.

Schools can also take part in a War Walk at the site which allows student to learn about wartime ‘on location’.

There will be live music, trade stalls, and for those seeking a thrill, a fun fair.

As the Education Day takes place right at the beginning of the academic year, it poses a great way to get pupils engaged and excited about learning History in the year ahead.

What else will be at the show?

World War Two aircrafts such as the Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane, and the B-17 Flying Fortress will take to the skies and sweep across the Leicestershire village of Cosby during the weekend-long event.

Visitors will get the chance to see various re-enactments take place, depicting war scenes and battles.

The main aim of the event is to provide a World War Two themed weekend for visitors of all ages to enjoy and interact with.

The event will also include tank rides and will showcase working and static farming machinery.

History on location

Leicestershire has a long timeline of history and schools visiting The Victory Show may also like to visit some of the other nearby historical locations.

The Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre is a great choice for school groups learning about the battle which took place in 1485. Educational visits to the centre can involve workshops and activities, and school rates are available.

Other historical places schools might like to visit nearby include Ashby De La Zouch Castle, Belvoir Castle, and Kirby Muxloe Castle.
