Investigating Holyrood Abbey

Venue: Holyrood Abbey, Edinburgh

Term: Ongoing

During this exploratory workshop, pupils will investigate the history of Holyrood Abbey and look for evidence of its turbulent past.

Explore the ruins of the abbey with a member of the learning team and find out about the daily lives of the monks who used to live there, the royal celebrations that took place within its walls and how it came to be a ruin.

An optional art activity is included; student can either decorate their own abbey with stone rubbings and a stained glass window, or try their hand at writing like the Augustian monks, with a quill and ink.
