UK Tour for National Theatre production of People

Date Posted: 27/04/2013

The National Theatre production of Alan Bennett’s new play People will go on tour this autumn, following a sell-out run in the Lyttelton and a record-breaking National Theatre Live broadcast.

The cast will include Siân Phillips and Michael Thomas, who join original cast member Selina Cadell in Nicholas Hytner’s production.

A synopsis of People

A sale? Why not? Release all your wonderful treasures onto the open market and they are there for everyone to enjoy. It’s a kind of emancipation, a setting them free to range the world… a saleroom here, an exhibition there.

People spoil things; there are so many of them and the last thing one wants is them traipsing through one’s house. But with the park a jungle and a bath on the billiard table, what is Dorothy to do?

Her archdeacon sister wants to hand the estate to the care of the National Trust, but Dorothy favours a more creative solution.
