Real Mary King’s Close welcomes interactive tour

Date Posted: 08/04/2013

A new area in the Real Mary King’s Close in Edinburgh, comprises a portrait room where the characters in the pictures come to life and interact with the tour guides.

Mary King herself is one of three characters that visitors can meet for the first time as part of the new interactive tour, which comes as the attraction celebrates its tenth anniversary.

The enhancements follow years of research into the lives of real people that once lived and traded within the warren of streets.

As part of the attractions’ ten year celebrations, pupils will be able to enjoy a programme of one-off special events, culminating in a week-long festival launching on Halloween.

What to expect at the Real Mary King’s Close

Hidden underground the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the Real Mary King’s Close is made up of a warren of narrow streets where people once lived.

The attraction takes a school group back in time through a tour of the historic site, thought by many visitors to be haunted by its former inhabitants.
