Theatre by the Lake

With a summer season running until 4th November, Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, the Lake District, has plenty of shows and resources that can support theatre-related learning in the autumn term.

There are a number of productions which will help teachers meet curriculum requirements, as well as schools ticket prices and extra resources available in the form of workshops, education packs and pre and post show talks.

The current season of shows includes a production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, a revival of After the Dance by dramatist Terence Rattigan, and a Christmas production of The Secret Garden, which will finish off the year.

Bespoke workshops are available for all three of these productions. In the workshops, the aim is to engage with the chosen text through interactive drama work. Pupils will explore the plot, characters and themes through talk, group work and performance.

Shared Experience workshops are also available for As You Like It. Shared Experience is a drama practitioner on the AQA syllabus and this is an opportunity for students to experience and learn about the company’s style of storytelling.

Resource packs

Theatre by the Lake offers resource packs designed for teachers and students. The packs contain information and articles about each play and its historical context, the writer, and the Theatre by the Lake creative team and cast.

Although the packs contain show specific content, they also contain information which offers an exploration of subjects and themes which remain relevant beyond the life of a show, and they can be downloaded from the website for free.
